Peri- implantitis is the inflammation of the tissues around the implant which is accompanied by bone loss and must be treated immediately because there is a high risk of implant loss

Symptoms :

  • Red mucosa around the implant
  • Existence fistula and pus discharge in some cases
  • Bleeding in detecting periodontal probing
  • Pain on percussion in chewing or clenching of teeth
  • In x-ray examination, existane of bone loss in height around the implant
  • Implant mobility at advanced stage

Etiology :

  •  Bacterial infection
  • Engineering overcharging
  • Implant-supported restorations wit problems
  • Deficient oral hygiene
  • Infection from adjacent natural teeth
  • Smoking
  • Excess of cement

Treatment:

  • Removal of pathogens that cause peri- implantitis through radical abrasion and lasers
  • Administration of antibiotic therapy
  • Proper oral hygiene instructions
  • Usage of interdental brushes
  • Usage of oral chlorhexidine solution
  • If the implant-supported restoration is not well implemented, it requires immediate replacement
  • Possible surgical bone regeneration
  • If there is no improvement in the above, then you must proceed to surgical removal of the implant, bone regeneration and implant placement new
